The journey begins!
Exit the city center’s hustle and bustle and head towards your destination, Ancient Corinth, was one of ancient Greece’s greatest cities.
Your first stop will be at Corinth, to marvel at the Corinth Canal on the Isthmus of Corinth. Look at the ships passing through the narrow Canal and take some pictures to remember this moment.
Just a breath away is Ancient Corinth’s archeological site, whose ruins cover an extensive area southwest of the modern town. The ruins include various shrines, fountains, shops, and paved streets. However, the most prominent among the remains are the Doric temple of Apollo built in the middle of the 6th century BCE and the great central marketplace called “Agora.” In the middle of Agora can be found the so-called “Rostra” or “Bema” of Saint Paul. In this area, the city’s officials addressed juridical and political decisions to the public. This was the place where Apostle Paul stood in judgment by Gallio.
Just above the site lies the Acropolis of Ancient Corinth, called the “Acrocorinth,” just a ten-minute drive from Ancient Corinth. Acrocorinth is believed to be the largest acropolis of ancient Greece, offering spectacular panoramic views.
