The best way to see, hear, feel and taste a city.
For anyone who wants to experience a city the locals way. Athens insiders was a real treat. Athens is not an easy city to negotiate if you are new to it. The guys took on what I wanted to see, hear, feel and taste and gave me the full works.
I loved it. Would definatley use them again and look forward to them expanding to other cities. This should be the way forward for tourism. No more drudgery and tourist trails, instead unique hand picked passage tailored to suit the individuals needs.
Lovely food tour in Athens
This tour exceeded our expectations. We usually do not like to book tours, we are experienced travelers and we like to explore our destinations by ourselves. However since we consider ourselves foodies we decided to give this tour a try. It was an absolute surprise. The tour was very well planned, we sampled a great variety of Greek products and delicacies in the center of Athens, we visited the central market, and finished the tour tasting some amazing Greek spirits! Foodie Treat
Yannis was at our hotel at the agreed upon time. At first we were a bit taken aback as he came with a TShirt and back pack, no badge but not to worry, that was the start of a wonderful 4hours. We walked from store to coffee shop to pastry to souvlaki to greek deli to ice cream shop to grocery to central market and on and on. It was remarkable and fantastic. Yannis took us to places that have been in business for over 100 yeaqrs and all within blocks of our hotel yet we would have walked right by them. Each place had a specialty from sausages to ice cream. Yasou Yannis!!!
Discovering Athens
We are a couple visiting Athens for the first time and we were fortunate enough to have chosen Athens Insiders to show us around the city. During our stay in Athens we met with them twice. We had the 4 hours orientation walk around Athens which was as informative as we would like and also very relaxed and enjoyable due to our lovely guide Giannis. He was a well educated young man, who took us to all the must-sees of Athens but also to some –off track- hidden places. [...]''

Best walking food tour ever!
My husband and I came to Athens for our honeymoon. We had the "Flavors of Athens" four-hour private walking tour. It was amazing! Our guide George was a chef and a Greece native. We cannot say enough about him. He tailored our experience to things we were interested in. As we were passing certain historical sites, he gave us a brief explanation at each one, which we loved! He took us to the local pastry shop, a Greek coffee shop where we were able to watch how Greek coffee is made. He had us try different types of olive oils and explained how it's made and how to tell what really good olive oil is [...]''

This is the best way to get a personalized taste of the authentic Athens. We did a private half- day food tour. Stop what you're doing and book this tour right now! You won't regret it. Our tour guide Yorgos, met my wife and I at our hotel and we walked to a nearby bakery to sample some Greek spinach and cheese filo pastries. Everything we tasted was delicious. He picked out the best items on all the menus for us to sample. What we really enjoyed was very few of the restaurants had any English on their menus or signs, and we didn't see any English-speaking tourists, so we knew the restaurants were very authentic. Best experience of Athens
We were hesitant to do this tour- as we really wanted to get to Mykonos early, but I am so glad that our travel agent insisted that we did this. We did the food tour and it was so beyond amazing. Our guide was phenomenal!!! This might have been one of our favorite experiences of our entire 2 week Greek vacation. We tried many local food items which weren't flooded with tourists. It felt like you were on an Anthony Bourdain show where a guide gives both food and cultural lessons. Additionally, as George is a professional chef, he also taught general culinary skills such as how to tell if a fish was fresh, a melon ripe, and other helpful tips for when shopping for fresh produce. The Athens Insiders were all great. We experienced the Acropolis Guided and Flavors of Athens food tour. Our guides Eleni and Yorgos were so knowledgeable and super friendly we just loved every minute of the tour.

Our travel agent planned this into our trip and I'm glad he did. The 4 hour walking tour took us to local markets and neighborhoods in Athens that locals shop and eat at. It provided a true insiders look of Athens.
Best way to start our vacation
Eleni and George, our tour guides, were absolutely amazing. The walking tour was the best way to start off our vacation. My husband and I enjoy both food and history and this was the perfect combination. If you don't have much time in Athens and want to really see and taste the city, this is the best way to do it. This is a terrific company. Yiannis appeared at our hotel on time, of course, and took us around Plaka and more of the old part of Athens on what was billed as a food tour, but it was much more than that. Yiannis is extremely knowledgeable (and very friendly). He took us to places where we could sample authentic local food, all the while explaining the origins of the local specialties and the historic context. Food tour of central Athens, great way to learn about the culture and history of the city.
My family of five spent five hours with George, walking through the central part of Athens, stopping at shops, cafes and the wholesale food market to sample olive oils, coffee, spanakopita, baclava, souvlaki and other treats. The tour was very interesting and George made it really fun with his enthusiasm for great food and commentary about Greek history and culture. I recommend this tour if you are interested in seeing something different in Athens and/or love Greek cuisine.

We toured with Maria, and it was absolutely the best thing we did while in Athens! Worth every penny. It was like having a local friend who knew all the best spots to take us to! She was friendly and knowledgeable, catered the tasting to our preferences, and spent more time with us than was planned. And we walked the streets of Athens like a local. It was a beautiful experience. A must do!!
Amazing Day!
My wife and I did this tour/cooking class with George and his team and it was amazing! We walked through the market and learned how to pick the best meat/fish. Then we went and cooked a traditional Greek meal with them, which was also amazing. The best part of the whole day is that they were relatable, we talked about sports, Ancient Greece, Modern Greece, and everything in between. It was 100% an amazing day and highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Athens!

We met Chef George in Plaka directly after our tour of the ruins. He introduced himself and our first stop was a little cafe for coffee and early morning desserts. We talked about American mobster movies while he taught us all about Greek coffee traditions while sampling desserts from the area. After that as we walked to the markets we talked about past and present culture of Athens. Arriving at the meat market we were able to see all the fresh meat and fish available to buy. [...]''

Outstanding - Flavors of Athens walking tour
We recently took the walking Flavors of Athens tour. Our guide was Yannis, an architectural, history, religious, chef. What a four-hour tour - it ended too soon.
Yannis took us to his favorite local stops:
• First dried nuts and fruits, candies
• Second, a street stand for Koulouri, sort of a Greek bagel. Apparently, Greeks have coffee at home and stop for these on the way to work.[...]''
Experience Greek food culture up close!
We were on the way with our guide Panos, who gave us insights into the Greek eating and drinking culture. First we were on a quiet roof terrace, where we tasted Greek coffee, olive oil and honey. Then we had puff pastry delicacies filled with feta, meat and spinach. Later we visited a market where we tasted olives, meat and fish. Then we visited an Armenian restaurant, which had feta, figs and various types of meat and sausage products. Later there was the typical Greek dish souvlaki and finally we tried baklava with ice cream in a small pastry shop. All in all, we were very satisfied with the tour and our very friendly guide Panos. I highly recommend the tour to everyone.
Super duper great tour
We were traveling with our guide Panos. He showed us unique glimpses of Greek cuisine. We were allowed to try everything from authentic Greek coffee to freshly fished fish. Panos designed the tour according to our wishes. I can only recommend the tour.
Flavor explosion seasoned with unique insights into Greek life!
First we went to see the Acropolis on our own and then met up with our guide Panos. First he took us to a hidden coffee shop with a cozy roof terrace and there we tasted different types of honey and olive oils over a cup of Greek coffee. The calm in this actually very lively city was heavenly. Then we continued towards the city center, where we tasted delicious bites of puff pastry that were prepared in front of our eyes and filled with feta, chicken or spinach. Then we went to the central food market, where Panos, who reports on life in Athens all the time, let us taste some types of olives. In a small, hidden place between the meat and fish market, there were small samples that tasted very tasty. [...]''

Perfect connoisseurs of the city
Backyard cult cafes, really original craftsmen and hidden little shops, a picture book tavern, the most exotic corners of the market area, good wine, narrow streets - in just a few hours, Anthia and Alexis, as true insiders, gave us an insight into Athens how we couldn't have won it ourselves in weeks. Incredible experience to discover the flavors of Greece!
I came to Greece on vacation for a few weeks and feel free to do this tour to get to know the real Greek food. Incredible Tour!
Panos was available for any request from us and from the beginning it left us totally at ease and gave us lots of tips about the city, such as where to have lunch and a drink. All the food we tried during the tour was fantastic. immense for those who want to spend an active afternoon on the streets of Athens and want to get to know Greek gastronomy.

A week before I went to Greece, I booked a food tour at Athens Insiders because I wanted my 10 and 12 year old daughters to have more fun.
